About me.
Hi, my name is Lorraine Arndell, a native French speaker.
I am a Graduate of Paul Valery University in Montpellier, France, where I gained my degree in English Language, Literature and Civilisation.
I came to England in 2001, taking and passing the Cambridge English Proficiency Certificate.
Since coming here I have trained as a Pharmacy Accuracy Checking Technician and am a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain.
Whilst in France I taught English to local children, and, since being in England, have taught conversational French to both children and adults on a one-to-one basis.
A while back I was approached and asked to translate a travel website from English into French, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Since then I have been asked by the same company to work on several websites and travel guides. This work led me to register as a Freelance Translator, since which time I have translated documents including certificates and letters of submission to Government bodies, as well as several short articles. In addition to translations I have also been commissioned to write original website articles in French.
Please note that I do not use computer based translation programs. Whilst these are (sometimes) very good, they are limited in their application as they are unable to adapt to the context of the work being translated. There are, also, some phrases which simply do not translate well and have to be re-written in the parent language before they will make sense in the language to which they are being translated. I can however use TRADOS Studio 2009 for projects that require me to use this software.
